Single Vs Double Pane Windows
Single pane windows consist of a single piece of glass whereas double pane windows consist of two pieces of glass that are sealed and filled with gas for insulation. The gas in between the double pane windows is usually argon or a similar gas that acts as an insulator and can save as much as 25% on heating/cooling costs over single pane windows. Double pane windows are commonly referred to as sealed units or double glazed windows.
Single Pane Windows
Single Pane windows were once the norm in residential construction. As such many older homes may still contain their original single pane windows. Some people continue to opt for single pane windows as they are less expensive than double pane and triple pane windows.
Common Uses for Single Pane Windows:
- Sheds/Outside Buildings
- Interior Decorative Glass
- Replacing Old Broken Single Pane Windows
Double Pane Windows
Double pane windows are probably the most common window type. The gas sealed in between the pieces of glass provides substantial energy savings.
Common Uses for Double Pane Windows:
- Residential Homes
- Commercial Businesses
- Residential & Commercial Garages
Double vs Triple Pane Windows
Double pane windows consist of two pieces of glass that are sealed and filled with gas for insulation and triple pane windows consist of three pieces of glass separated with two spacers and filled with insulating gas. Triple pane windows can save between 20-30% on heating/cooling costs over double pane windows. Triple pane windows are commonly referred to as triple sealed units and triple glazed windows.
Triple Pane Windows
Triple Pane Windows are pretty rare in Delta BC. Usually these windows are installed in places that see extreme temperatures as they provide a second level of installation compared to double pane windows. In addition triple pane windows are commonly installed in large commercial buildings to protect against future regulations.
Common Uses for Triple Pane Windows:
- Residential Homes
- Commercial Businesses
- Large Commercial Buildings & Towers
